E-E-A-T optimisation for Indian websites: a practical guide

Google's E-E-A-T framework matters more than ever. Here is how Indian businesses can demonstrate experience, expertise, authority, and trust in a way that actually moves rankings.

E-E-A-T optimisation for Indian websites: a practical guide

E-E-A-T stands for Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness. It is not a direct ranking factor in the way a backlink or page speed score might be, but it shapes how Google evaluates the quality of your content at a deeper level. For Indian websites, particularly in sectors like finance, health, legal, and education, getting E-E-A-T right is non-negotiable.

The extra "E" for Experience was added in late 2022. It rewards content written by people who have actually done the thing they are writing about. A blog post about filing ITR written by someone who has filed hundreds of returns for clients is worth more than a generic article assembled from Google results. This distinction matters enormously for Indian SMB websites.

Start with your author profiles

Most Indian business websites have no author information whatsoever. The blog posts are published under "Admin" or a generic company name with no biography, no credentials, no photo. This is a missed opportunity.

Every piece of content should have a named author. The author page should include their qualifications, professional experience, how long they have been in the industry, and ideally links to other places they have been published or cited. A tax consultant who has been practicing for 12 years should say so. A software architect who has built systems for Indian banks should mention it.

This is not about vanity. It signals to Google that a real expert is behind the content.

Build your site's trust signals

Trust comes from multiple directions. HTTPS is the baseline. An accessible privacy policy and contact page matter. But for Indian sites, there are local trust signals worth adding. Display your GST number if you are registered. Show your physical office address, especially if you serve local clients. Include your CIN if you are a registered company.

Testimonials, especially those linked to real client profiles or Google Reviews, add another layer. A testimonial from a verified business in Bengaluru carries real weight for potential clients in the same city.

Create content that shows you have done the work

Generalist content does not score well on E-E-A-T. "10 tips for social media marketing" is forgettable. "How we grew a Jaipur handicraft brand's Instagram from 400 to 18,000 followers in eight months, with the exact content strategy" is memorable and authoritative.

Write about what you have actually done. Use real numbers where your clients permit. Reference Indian-specific platforms, regulations, and consumer behaviours. A case study about improving a Swiggy restaurant partner's conversion rate is far more credible than a generic CRO article.

Get cited and linked by credible sources

Authority is partly about who references you. Reach out to Indian business publications, trade associations, and industry bodies for guest articles or expert commentary. A quote in an Economic Times article about digital marketing trends builds your authority in a way no amount of internal content can replicate.

Backlinks from authoritative Indian domains, government websites, educational institutions, and established news outlets carry significant weight. Building these takes time, but the focus should be on relationships and genuine expertise sharing, not link schemes.

Frequently asked questions

Does E-E-A-T apply to all website types in India?

It matters for all websites, but it is especially important for YMYL topics: Your Money or Your Life. Finance, health, legal advice, and education content are held to the highest standards.

Can a small Indian business compete with big brands on E-E-A-T?

Yes, in niche areas. A specialist GST consultant in Surat who publishes detailed, experience-based content will outperform a generic national firm on specific local and topical queries.

How long does it take to see results from E-E-A-T improvements?

It is not a quick fix. Expect three to six months before you see meaningful ranking changes from consistent E-E-A-T improvements. The work compounds over time.
