Setting up a marketing analytics dashboard for your Indian business

Looking at analytics in five different tabs is not strategy. A single dashboard that pulls your key numbers together changes how fast you can make decisions.

Setting up a marketing analytics dashboard for your Indian business

Every week I speak to Indian business owners who are drowning in data but starving for clarity. They have Google Analytics, Meta Ads Manager, Google Ads, and maybe a WhatsApp tool all open in separate browser tabs. Each one shows different things. None of them tells the full story.

A consolidated marketing dashboard solves this. One view, all your key numbers, updated automatically.

What to include in your dashboard

Start with revenue and lead metrics first. How many leads or orders did you generate this week, this month, and compared to the same period last year? What is the cost per lead or cost per sale across all paid channels combined? These top-line numbers answer the question your business owner cares about most.

Below that, break it down by channel. Show organic search traffic and conversions separately from paid traffic. Show Meta Ads spend, clicks, and conversions separately from Google Ads. This channel breakdown tells you where your budget is going and what it is producing.

Add website health metrics: total sessions, bounce rate, page load time, and mobile traffic percentage. For most Indian websites, 60 to 70 percent of traffic is mobile. If your mobile metrics are poor, that is a business problem, not just a technical one.

Finally, include the one or two metrics specific to your business model. For a coaching business, that might be webinar registrations. For an e-commerce store, it might be average order value. For a B2B company, it might be qualified demo requests.

Google Looker Studio (formerly Data Studio) for Indian businesses

Looker Studio is Google's free dashboard tool, now renamed from Data Studio. It connects directly to Google Analytics, Google Ads, Google Search Console, and YouTube Analytics without any additional cost. For Indian businesses already using Google's ecosystem, this is the obvious starting point.

You can also connect Meta Ads data through third-party connectors. Some are free (with limitations), and paid options like Supermetrics cost around ₹3,000 to ₹5,000 per month but pull data from Meta, LinkedIn, WhatsApp Business API, and other platforms automatically.

Building your first dashboard in Looker Studio

Create a new report, connect your Google Analytics 4 property as the data source, and drag in a scorecard widget for sessions. Then add another for conversions. Then add a time series chart showing sessions over the past 30 days. You now have the beginning of a dashboard.

The key is to start simple. Most businesses build dashboards that are too complex and then stop looking at them. A one-page dashboard with eight to ten metrics that is reviewed every Monday morning is worth more than a twenty-page dashboard nobody opens.

Sharing dashboards with your team or clients

Looker Studio dashboards can be shared via a link, like a Google Doc. You can set view-only permissions so clients can see their data without being able to edit the report. For agencies managing multiple Indian SMB clients, this is much more professional than sending weekly screenshot reports by email.

Schedule email delivery in Looker Studio to send a PDF snapshot of the dashboard automatically. Set it to deliver Monday morning so your client (or your boss) sees the weekly numbers before their first meeting.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to know coding to build a Looker Studio dashboard?

No. Looker Studio is a drag-and-drop tool. You do need to understand which metrics you want to display and how to connect data sources, but no coding is required. Google provides free tutorials and the interface is learnable in a few hours.

Can I track WhatsApp leads in my marketing dashboard?

Not natively, since WhatsApp does not integrate with Looker Studio directly. The workaround is to log WhatsApp leads in a Google Sheet (manually or via an automation tool like Pabbly Connect or Zapier), then connect that Google Sheet as a data source in Looker Studio. This gives you a lead count that updates as you log them.

How often should I review my marketing dashboard?

Set a weekly ritual. Monday morning, ten minutes, review the key numbers from the previous week. Monthly, do a deeper review that compares month-over-month and year-over-year. Daily monitoring is only necessary for campaigns with large daily budgets where a problem could cost significant money quickly.
