Your landing page is losing you leads: a checklist for Indian businesses

A landing page that works in the US or UK often fails in India for specific, predictable reasons. This checklist covers what Indian visitors expect and what typically drives them away.

Your landing page is losing you leads: a checklist for Indian businesses

A landing page that gets a 3% conversion rate in the US or UK often converts at 0.8-1.2% in India. The gap isn't because Indian visitors are harder to convert. It's because most landing pages are built for a different audience and never adapted for Indian context.

Here's a checklist. Work through it before you run another rupee of paid traffic.

Above the fold

Does your headline say who this is for?

"Digital marketing services" tells me what you do. "Digital marketing for study abroad consultants in North India" tells me you understand my specific situation. Industry-specific or location-specific headlines convert significantly better with Indian audiences who want to know you understand their market.

Is your first CTA visible without scrolling on mobile?

Over 75% of Indian traffic is mobile. If the button requires a scroll, test a sticky header CTA.

Does the page load in under 3 seconds on a 4G connection?

Use PageSpeed Insights on mobile mode. Pages over 4 seconds lose 25% of Indian mobile visitors before they see the offer.

Proof and trust signals

Do you show actual client names or company logos?

"Our clients" in small text with no names is not proof. A logo grid with recognizable brands, or testimonials attributed to real people with their role and company, is proof. Indian buyers are skeptical of unattributed quotes.

Is there a physical address or GST number visible somewhere?

This is India-specific. Businesses operating from a physical location with a GST registration feel more accountable than those without. A footer address, even if you don't receive walk-in clients, builds trust.

Are there WhatsApp-verified client reviews or screenshots?

Screenshots of WhatsApp conversations (with the client's approval) or Google Review snippets feel more authentic to Indian audiences than polished testimonial cards.

The offer

Is there a specific offer with a specific outcome?

"Contact us for digital marketing" is a category. "We'll audit your Google Ads account and tell you exactly where the money is going — free, within 48 hours" is an offer. Specificity reduces the perceived risk of engaging.

Does the page show pricing ranges?

Indian audiences research heavily before engaging. Hiding pricing entirely to "force a conversation" more often causes visitors to leave and find someone who's transparent. Even a "starting from ₹25,000/month" range filters for serious buyers.

Is the CTA specific about what happens next?

"Submit" or "Contact Us" creates uncertainty. "Get your free audit" or "Talk to a campaign manager" tells the visitor what they're actually getting.

The form

How many fields does your primary form have?

Every additional field after the third reduces form fill rate by roughly 10-15%. For first contact, ask for name, phone number, and one qualifying question (budget range, timeline, or business type). You can get the rest on the call.

Is WhatsApp listed as an alternative contact method?

In our testing, adding a WhatsApp number or click-to-chat button alongside the form increases overall contact rate by 30-50% because a significant portion of Indian visitors prefer WhatsApp over email.

Does the form work on mobile?

Test it. Tap every field. Submit it from a phone. Check that the thank-you message appears. This sounds obvious, but broken mobile forms are the most expensive and most preventable conversion killer.

After the form

Is your thank-you page tracking a conversion?

Not the "page loads after submit" — confirm that Google Analytics or Google Ads is actually recording a conversion event. If it's not, you're optimizing in the dark.

Does someone follow up within 4 hours?

Indian lead response time expectations are shorter than most Western markets. Leads that don't get a response within a few hours often go to a competitor. Even a WhatsApp message acknowledging receipt buys time for a proper follow-up.

Go through this list against your current landing page. If you find three or more gaps, fixing them before the next campaign launches will change your numbers more than any change to the ads themselves.
