The case study that kept bringing leads without any ad spend

The case study that kept bringing leads without any ad spend

We published a case study in late 2021. A Google Ads engagement for a B2B industrial equipment supplier based in Pune. We had taken them from a cost-per-lead of ₹3,400 down to ₹890 over eight months. The client was happy, the numbers were real, we wrote it up properly with the actual data and the actual context.

We did not promote it aggressively. We put it on our website, shared it once on LinkedIn, sent it to our email list. And then we more or less forgot about it.

Eighteen months later, that case study is still generating qualified enquiries. Not a lot. Maybe two or three per month. But they arrive pre-educated, already convinced that we can do what they need. They have read the methodology. They have seen the numbers. They have self-qualified against the scenario.

Why this one worked when others did not

We had published case studies before that generated nothing. The difference with this one came down to a few things. First, it was specific. A specific industry (industrial equipment), a specific metric (cost-per-lead), a specific result (₹3,400 to ₹890). Vague case studies do not help anyone self-identify. This one let people say "that is my situation."

Second, it included the reasoning, not just the result. We explained why we restructured the campaign the way we did. We explained the keyword strategy, the match type decisions, the audience layering. Readers who understood that reasoning trusted us more, not less, for showing our thinking. It was not a polished success story. It was a working document from a real engagement.

Third, it ranked. We wrote it for a human reader but we also thought about what someone searching "B2B Google Ads India" or "industrial equipment digital marketing" might be looking for. We included enough of the right language without writing it for a search engine. Two years in, it still ranks on page one for a few relevant terms.

What we changed after this

We now require a case study from every significant engagement we close. We build the data capture into the project from the start. Before we launch anything, we establish the baseline metrics we are going to write about later. This makes the case study easier to write and more credible to read. It also keeps us honest about what we are actually achieving.

The case study that keeps bringing leads did not come from a content calendar or a marketing strategy. It came from doing good work and writing it up honestly. That is not a scalable insight. But it is a true one.
